Preparing for Disney Cruise: Door Magnets

I'm very excited about my upcoming trip on the Disney Dream. I will be on the ship for New Years 2017. New Years is a very special day us. It's my first Disney Cruise and I'm looking forward to every aspect of it.

In planning for the upcoming trip, I learned that many families have custom door magnets made for their cruise cabin door. They are in the shape of Mickey or Minnie and will often have the name of each of the family members. You've probably seen something similar on the back of cars where each family member has a bumper sticker. Same concept, but for the cabin door. Cruise doors are made out of metal, which makes them magnetic.

I don't know where this trend started, but it was probably in an effort to decorate the otherwise bland door and personalize it at the same time. Since these are magnets, at the end of the trip, you can simply remove them, pack them, and use them again on the next trip.

Preparing for Disney Cruise: Hidden Mickey's

What's a Hidden Mickey?
Well, it's just that a Mickey shaped head that is hidden somewhere. It's kind of like Where's Waldo.

If you're a Disney fan, you probably already know that there are Hidden Mickey's at both Disney World and Disneyland, but did you know that Disney Cruise Ships have them too?! The Disney Bahamian Island Castaway Cay also has Hidden Mickey's.

I bought my Hidden Mickey's on Amazon. It has a chapter on each of the specific Disney Ships: Dream, Magic, Fantasy, and Wonder, as well as a chapter for Castaway Cay.

The book has hints on where to find the Hidden Mickey's. You can play by yourself, with your family, or just have the kids do it.

There is a different point assignment to each Hidden Mickey. That's because some are harder to find than others. You can keep track of the points in the book and at the end of the chapter you can tally your points. The book gives you a point system to see how well you did: bronze, silver, gold or a perfect score.

Travel Destination: Puerto Rico

Image result for puerto rico outline

Puerto Rico is a small island located in the Caribbean. Most people fail to realize that Puerto Rico is a protectorate of the United States. That means that even though it is not a state, everyone that is born there enjoy the benefits of being a U.S. Citizen. Official languages are both Spanish and English. Locals typically speak Spanish and only use their English when they need to communicate with a lost tourist.

Tourists that visit the island are often drawn to the capital city of San Juan where they explore: El Yunque, which is the U.S's only natural rainforest, El Morro, which is a Fort, the Bacardi Factory, and of course, the beautiful beaches. However, Puerto Rico has more to offer than just the metropolitan area. For example, in Ponce you can find a Fire House from the 1800's.

Carnaval is one of the best times of the year to visit Ponce. The celebration lasts a week generally in February and ends on Ash Wednesday with the burial of the Sardine. During the burial, people follow the coffin of the sardine and chant traditional responses, while they pretend to cry for the death of their beloved sardine.

Locals dress up in costumes and wear traditional paper-mache masks.

I grew up in PR, since that's where my mom's side of the family is from. As a travel agent, I'm happy to share my knowledge with prospective travelers.

Teacher's Travel Group

Are you a teacher and have a group of co-workers that would want to travel together next Spring or Summer? Don't know how to start and need help coordinating the trip?

Let me help. As an experienced teacher I understand that you have two months off in the summer, but that often doesn't mean that you'll get paid for those months that you're off.

Traveling is a good way to relax and unwind, but only if you can stretch and already limited salary.

How about a cruise getaway? Would you like your (berth) bed on board to be free? If we can work together and organize enough people I can help you get the cost of your berth for free and possibly throw in some extra perks for the group.

Inquires are welcome at no obligation. Contact me at or
